Includes two copies of the DCP. One copy is on the CRU and playable on theatrical projectors. The second copy is your DCP backup on the original drive that is brought to us, and it consists of the DCP project files and the DCP files that are copied to the CRU. This backup is important should changes to the DCP (i.e. adding subitiltles, alternate audio mix, etc.) be needed later or should an additional copy of the DCP be needed while the first CRU is unavailable (i.e. at another festival, lost, damaged, etc.). Having a backup will allow duplication of the DCP without requiring purchasing a complete additional DCP creation.

All DCP's are guaranteed within 3 days or less, regardless of length. Most short films can be done within 24 hours and possibly immediately while you wait. Expedited services are available for feature films (see below).

Please note, if a CRU is desired, the 3-day guarantee only applies if a CRU is on hand, ordered overnight, or provided by the client. Please inquire if you need a CRU and fast turnaround. Most festivals will accept a portable USB hard drive, which is significantly cheaper than a CRU kit, so it's a good idea to check with the festival first.

CRU KIT OPTIONS

A CRU is a hard drive in a special enclosure that is able to to be connected to cinema projectors. It is also formatted in the ext2 filesystem, which is used by Linux-based operating systems. A CRU is required to make a DCP if it is to be played in a theater. There are 2 options for the CRU that Escient Digital can obtain and provide at an additional charge. The CRU may also be provided by the client and may cost the client less money overall. The DCP files may also be copied to any external USB 3.0 hard drive with MacOS or Windows filesystems, instead of ext2.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

It is the client's responsibility to check all source material thoroughly before submission. Escient Digital is not responsible for glitches or QC issues in the source material. Escient Digital does not perform QC on the source material prior to creating the DCP. If there is an issue with the DCP that was not in the original source material, Escient Digital will fix the issue at no additional charge. It is highly recommended that the client test the DCP at a theater (preferably the theater and even the projector that will be used) prior to exhibition. Thus it is highly recommended that DCP's be ordered and tested far in advance of any exhibition. Escient Digital will not be responsible or liable for exhibition screening issues, as putting the DCP into exhibition constitutes client's acceptance of the DCP as-is.

Formats accepted:

H.264/H.265, 16-bit TIFF Image Sequence, 10-bit DPX Image Sequence accepted with additional charge ($100 for short films up to 60 minutes, $200 for feature films up to 120 minutes).

PICTURE

Resolutions:

All DCPs are created to fit into one of the following container sizes. If your source material does not fit in one of the containers listed below, it will need to be letterboxed, pillarboxed, or resized to fit.

Framerates:

Only 23.98 or 24.00 fps source material will be accepted. All DCP's will be encoded at the standard 24.00 fps.

If you have a project that is 25, 29.97, 30, 48, 59.94, or 60 fps, you must first convert it to 24 fps. Be sure to use an appropriate method and check for artifacts and that you are satisfied with the motion cadence before submission.

Color Spaces accepted:

It is the client's responsibility to check all source material thoroughly before submission and specify the color space of their film.

All films where a color space is not given shall be assumed Rec709 2.4 gamma.

All source materials should be delivered in an RGB target color gamut. Only source materials color timed to P3 DCI color space will be accepted in XYZ target color gamut.

Audio

Discrete channels of 24-bit 48 kHz Linear PCM audio. If delivering as separate files (preferred), must deliver in AIFF, WAV, or Broadcast WAV format. Muxed or compressed files (i.e. AC3 or AAC) are not accepted.

Required 5.1 Channel Assignment:

HARD DRIVE

Submissions should be provided on a USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt hard drive. The drive should have at least 300GB free (1TB for 4K) to allow for backing up the DCP.
